Please note we have also rescheduled the Acylic Pour demonstration and workshop which will now be held on Feb 8th at 10am. A Happy & Healthy New Year to everyone. The current situation regarding art classes is that we now hope to restart classes on Jan 25th 2022. Various proposed precautions, including rapid lateral flow tests, are being considered by the Committee to ensure we everyone is safe in the Village Hall. We have also rescheduled the Acrylic Pour demonstration and workshop to the 8th Feb 2022. These dates remain provisional as the overall Covid situation evolves and members will be notified nearer the time regarding confirmation. So it's back to home studios for a while, enjoy.
Please note that with immediate effect Art Classes have been suspended in the light of the growing concerns over the current Covid situation.
The Art Group Committee have assessed the risks and decided that we should suspend classes until further notice. This means that upcoming events like the Picture of the Month competition and the Acrylic Pour demonstration and workshop planned for 11th Jan 2022 will also be in doubt. Obviously the situation is dynamic and when the landscape changes members and all will be notified. Meantime, have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year. Preparations are well underway for our upcoming Exhibition at the Binham Christmas Fair. We will be exhibiting winter themed pictures and other work including 3D items will on display too so the exhibition will be quite varied. Mark your calendars it's just around the corner.
One of hour longest serving Art Group members put down his coloured pencils to tuck into a celebratory chocolate cake in reaching his 90th Birthday - well done Cedric and the cake was fantastic - a great milestone, and just goes to show you can do art at any age. Applause all round. PS Cedric's bird studies are just delightful.edit.
On 21st September we welcomed inventive Janette Williams, the Castle Acre self taught artist, to give our Art Group a demonstration of her use of Watercolour, moving and sculpting the paint to form shapes and effects. Janette took us through the set up process. Rather than using pans for painting Janette uses tubes, she also uses large brushes - the bigger the better and moves the paint around the paper using credit cards! Janette also introduced the Group to the concept of using ink jet printed tracing paper to transfer words like poetry onto the artwork using PVA glue. All very interesting. Janette recommends A3 paper standard block pads for practice then heavy weight Bockingford paper for the finished pieces. Using a Sunflower Head as her reference, Janette prepared her pallet with a selection of colours, mostly primary although she selected Sap Green and Viridian (her current favourite colour) for the foliage. With the paper wet all over it was straight in with a loaded big brush, no sketching first. Muted background first leaving areas of the paper unpainted for the flower head. Then producing broad brush stokes resembling the petals and positioning the stalk and foliage Janette quickly changed colours having washed her brush in large pots. The paint was layered thickly on the wet paper and whist it was still wet Janette used her credit cards and sculpted the paint into the shape of the petals and leaves. Very effective and showed good tonal qualities. The pictures below show Janette”s step by step approach for the demonstration and after lunch a number of the Group tried their hand at producing a floral arrangement using the same techniques. Very effective and enjoyable demonstration opening our eyes to new painting techniques. A big thank you Janette for sharing your passion for art with a difference and giving us a most informative day. Things are slowly getting back to normal and we are delighted to announce that we have secured Janette Williams, a talented self taught artist to come along and give us a demo and run a workshop for the Group. Janette will focus on watercolour as the medium and plans to 'play with colour' by putting down the brushes and using items such as an old credit card. Promises to be enlightening.
A bit like old times having a visiting artist join us for the day. If you like to know more about Janette work please visit her website at: janettewilliams art.co.uk We are pleased to announce that the Binham Art Group are to hold their Annual Art Exhibition in the Binham Memorial Village Hall over the weekend of August 14th and 15th.
Regrettably we will not be holding the Private Preview Evening on the Friday before the show. We felt it prudent to postpose this element until 2022. Shame as this is often regarded as one the village social highlights of the year. Plans for the show are dynamic in view of the ever changing Cover landscape but we aim to keep everyone safe and precautions will apply to visitors - hand sanitising etc. So we look forward to seeing there. After our enforced break of over 16 months we are returning to art classes in the Binham Memorial Village Hall. Classes will begin again from 6th July at the usual time of 9.30am through to 12.30pm. Naturally Covid restrictions will apply and face masks will be required at least until July 19th or when it is deemed safe to do so. More details about the restrictions will be emailed to members shortly.
It's been a while and many of our members have not picked up a paint brush during the lockdown so it will be a good opportunity to 'get back into the saddle' so to speak. We look forward to seeing you back next week. Congratulations Francis on winning the first online Monthly Art Competition with your lovely Watercolour and Ink picture. It was a clear winner and thank you to all those who entered, better luck next month.
