Sorry for the late report but on 20th September Liz Hawkins, assisted by her husband Ian, gave the group an excellent introduction into the world of lino cutting. A whole new terminology - relief printing, Pfeil and Flexcut cutting tools, lino vs vinyl vs soft cut, chine- collé, baron and soft rollers and so on. Most of the audience had only previous done lino cutting at school so it was an enjoyable refresh to this fascinating subject. Liz, a former tutor, was an excellent teacher and guided the group through the whole process. Several members of the group had a go and produced some creditable results. It requires a whole new mind set as images and lettering are reversed - quite challenging at times. Anyway here's some photos of the process and results. (Arthur was Church Warden at Binham Priory for 30 years and particularly cherished the building). A big thank you to everyone that visited the Exhibition. There was a record attendance on the Friday evening Preview Night, a record submissions entry from our Artists (135 paintings), a record number of sales - 42 paintings, which allowing for the Not For Sale entries represents over a third of all exhibits were sold by 19 different Artists - another record. It may be the hot sunny weather, the draw of the new local Parlour Cafe, visitors to The Chequers Inn, the freedom from lockdown or just higher quality work - either way we appreciate the support. A big thank you too to our Artists and helpers in putting on this event. The feedback and comments we have had are also appreciated and will be taken on board for next years event.     The Art Group have been busy over the recent past painting Postcards to decorate the Binham Memorial Village Hall as part of the celebrations for the 4 day commemorative event. These Postcards along with a collection of paintings, on the Royal theme, were enjoyed by the villagers during the tea party and cricket match. Congratulations and thank you Ma'am was the order of the day. Proceeds from the sale of the Postcards will go towards the new Commemorative bench for the village green. Well done to Matilda (aged 9) for joining in and sending her postcard to The Queen at Windsor Castle and getting an acknowledgement -a great achievement. Olena Yermolenko sent the Art Group this heartfelt message from her Children's Art Class. Well done and congratulations Olena for inspiring the children.    An appreciative message from Olena taking refuge in Poland. Thank you to Isabel for organising this and thank you too for the Art Group members in providing the art materials. Let's hope they go some way to help Olena and the children through this difficult period .Stay safe Olena.  Congratulations to Janie Preece and Francis Wood on jointly winning the May Picture of the Month competition.This is our monthly competition voted by the Art Group members. Janie's Pastel 'Storm clouds" and Francis's watercolour/ink/gouache 'Wells-next-the-Sea". These pictures are now hanging in The Gallery at The Chequers.
 The Art Group would like to say a big thank you to Sarah, Simon and all the staff that are Team Chequers, for running the raffle with the 'Ackroyd and Blueshi' painting and raising funds for the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis appeal. Also a big thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets. Sadly, there can only be one winner and congratulations go to Paul Brown who bought the winning ticket. Enjoy the painting Paul.
Two of our artists, Carolyn and Isabel, also donated their pictures to help support the Ukraine Crisis appeal and collectively £180 was raised. Thank you everyone for supporting this worthy cause. Please note Art Class for the 12th April has been cancelled as the Village Hall is unavailable. Classes will return on the 19th April as usual, sorry for the inconvenience.ere to edit.
On 8th Feb our fellow artist Robin gave a demonstration of 3 different Acrylic Pour demonstrations to the art group members. Describing what acrylic paint is, how it’s consistency is different from manufacturer to manufacturer and how it behaves when various mediums and chemicals are added. In its simplest form adding water to acrylic paint can thin the paint which makes it suitable for pouring. The consistency you are trying to achieve is more ‘latte than tea’, similar to single cream. Robin added other mediums, like PVA glue, silicone as well as professional pouring medium to illustrate the different effects. Robin then produced three colourful pictures, a Dutch pour blowout akin to a dancing dragon, a chain pull butterfly and a central swipe example all using various tools including a hairdryer, a kitchen torch and straws. After the coffee break the members had a go producing some interesting and amazing effects. An enjoyable and interesting mornings painting with a difference. Loads of fun and sure to be repeated at some point. Here are some examples of the results, enjoy.       |
